Harlequin responded with, “We’ll change the name.”

Here’s the article…

Industry associations speak out against publisher's imprint; Harlequin says it will change imprint's name

By Lynn Andriani -- Publishers Weekly, 11/20/2009 8:06:00 AM

Romance Writers of America and other writer associations yesterday spoke out against the announcement earlier this week that Author Solutions had teamed up with Harlequin to form Harlequin Horizons, a new imprint for self-published romance authors. RWA has deemed Harlequin no longer eligible for RWA-provided conference resources—meaning the publisher is not entitled to enter any award competitions. Late yesterday, Harlequin publisher and CEO Donna Hayes responded, saying the company was “surprised and dismayed” at RWA’s actions, and that it would change the name of the self-publishing company from Harlequin Horizons to a designation “that will not refer to Harlequin in any way.”

As PW reported Tuesday, Harlequin Horizons was set to recruit writers in two ways: authors whose manuscripts had been rejected by Harlequin would be made aware of the Harlequin Horizons option, and authors who signed with Author Solutions would be given the opportunity to be published under the Harlequin Horizons imprint. All services are on a pay-for-service basis.

An e-bulletin prepared by Margery Flax on behalf of Mystery Writers of America’s National Board of Directors said MWA was “deeply concerned about the troubling conflict-of-interest issues created by these ventures, particularly the potentially misleading way they are marketed to aspiring writers.” The MWA was refering to both Harlequin Horizons and the eHarlequin Manuscript Critique service, also aimed at aspiring writers. MWA said it would consider removing Harlequin from its list of approved publishers, declining membership applications from Harlequin authors, and barring Harlequin books from entering the Edgar Awards unless Harlequin agreed to discuss changing these ventures by December 15.

Russell Davis, president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. is also firmly against the self-publishing program and is asking Harlequin to "openly acknowledge" to would-be authors that books in the program will not be distributed into brick-and-mortar bookstores ensuring “that the titles will not be breaking into the real fiction market.” The organization also wants Harlequin to acknowledge “that the imprint does not represent a genuine opportunity for aspiring authors to hone their skills, as no editor will be vetting or working on the manuscripts.” SFWA is calling for Harlequin not to simply change the name of the imprint, but to "discontinue this imprint and return to doing business as an advance and royalty paying publisher." Until they do, no Harlequin titles will qualify for membership in SFWA.

Hayes’s note reiterated ways Harlequin has supported RWA over the years and said she and her colleagues were “surprised to discover that the RWA sent a notice to its membership announcing this decision, before allowing Harlequin to respond or engage in a discussion about it with the RWA board.”

…What do you guys think? I’ve never dealt with self-publishers before, because frankly their ‘packages’ didn’t appeal to me. Why? Well I will be away over the holidays and I want to have everything done in time. This year I am getting too many "I don't know what I want for Christmas"

That does not help me. So since I was getting too many of those I started looking around early. I do not want to be shopping last minute. I think I have only ever had to do that once. This year I have a few extra gifts to get since I will be spending the holidays with a huge amount of family members who I do not regularly spend the holidays with.

I have noticed that year by year it is getting harder to shop. Most people have nothing they want or are not sure what they even want. I think it is the best time to start since there are a lot of sales going on and you can find a ton of things for less or get a great deal.

Has anyone else started to do shopping for the holidays? Or am I way too early?
Oh and if you are wondering what I want for Christmas, all I want is my family.

Savannah
http://www.savannahchase.com/

New Cover Squee!

Just got my cover for my upcoming combo release of two contemporary erotic romances in eBook and print from Blushing Books, Bridezilla and A Date for The Wedding! Rae Monet does such gorgeous work, doesn't she?! I absolutely love it!

Blurb:

Bridezilla

Travis McAlister heard about it happening, but he never imagined his sweet, beautiful Chloe Sheridan, would turn into Bridezilla. When they set the date for their wedding, though, Chloe changes right before his eyes and his once calm, organized girlfriend is now freaking out over every minor detail of the upcoming nuptials.

He tries his best to ignore her behavior, but when they still don't have a DJ a week before the wedding, Travis finally decides it's time to take matters into his own hands. Not only does he hire one himself, but when she argues with him, he puts her over his knee for a well-deserved spanking.

Travis wonders if warming her sexy bottom will be enough to get her to change her ways, but he doubts it, especially when there are still dozens of decisions to be made and an out-of-control bride determined to make a major event out of every one of them!

A Date for the Wedding

Sabrina Kyle wants to make her ex-boyfriend jealous. What better way to do that than to go to a mutual friend's wedding with a handsome man on her arm, right?

Finding such a man on short notice is difficult, though, so against her better judgment, Sabrina asks her gorgeous coworker Holden McKenna to be her date. Her plan to make her ex-boyfriend jealous works perfectly, but things go awry when Holden catches onto the scheme. Not at all pleased to find out she's used him, Holden drags her off for what he considers is a well-deserved spanking and Sabrina spends the rest of the evening with a tingling bottom.

Sabrina is determined to stay as far away from Holden as she can after that, but back at work she's mortified to learn they've been hand selected to work on a new advertising campaign together. How can she be expected her to work with a man who spanks her every time they have a difference of opinion? And why the heck is she starting to enjoy it?!

Bridezilla and A Date for the Wedding will be available soon in both eBook and print!

*hugs*
Paige

"Stories so hot, they'll make your cheeks blush!"

http://wwww.paigetylertheauthor.com
http://paigetylertheauthor.blogspot.com

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='A.J. I am a Buddhist and my west valley division of the SGI International branch of Buddhism is the first to create an Art Department.
Sunday was our first big meeting and I was overwhelmed that so many people came out to support the creation of the Art Department, particularly Buddhists from all over California.
Our mentor, President Daisaku Ikeda, a great humanitarian, philosopher and avowed "peacebuilder" was excited about this new development since he encourages our work with youth members who are very drawn to Art.
President Ikeda loves the written word. He is an astonishing writer of philosophy, letters, poems and songs. He loves art and music. He always says the seeds of growth come from artists.
And President Ikeda loves to dance.
As one of the participating volunteers on Sunday, I was asked to give out slips of yellow paper as I greeted new arrivals. Seven of us were given different colors - mine was yellow.
I must be a real social animal because as the meeting progressed, half the room had yellow papers!
As each person arrived, they were asked to sign in and also write what their art is.
I was intrigued to see many of the children write: DANCER.
As our meeting went on, I was inspired by the stories I heard. Theater director Wayne Green came from Las Vegas to share his experience of how he rebuilt his career when 9/11 crashed and burned the entire livelihood of the theater community in Nevada.
He talked about the passion he tapped into to rebuild and his commitment to never surrender. He talked of the power of our chant, nam myoho renge kyo.
He reminded us in tough times, we must chant more. It works. I remind myself I have better days when I do it. I remind myself that being a Buddhist doesn't mean I'll never have problems, but it DOES guarantee I'll handle them better.
Above all, he reminded us of our mentor's words, to live life as if it is a splendid dance.
The women and children did a traditional Japanese fan dance as overhead, footage of President Ikeda doing the same dance in the various stages of his life played on.
I was mesmerized by his joy in the movement. I was enthralled that this great leader, who travels the world helping so many people, finds time - small moments - to enjoy his Art.
As we split off into group colors to exhange ideas, each group came up with a sentence that best describes their joint philosophy of life.
These are wonderful discussions that always provide food for thought and a new focus.
I signed into that meeting as a WRITER. I crossed that out as I left the meeting.
My name in A.J. Llewellyn and I am a DANCER.

Aloha oe,

A.J.

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='C. I went to bestbuy yesterday and played with all the netbooks they had in the store, plus a few other things. Come on admit it, you can't just walk into a best buy and not play with the stuff, it's like a toy store for adults!! LOL.
Anyways, after I found the one I wanted I came home and with the help of my honey (Mr. Technology) I compared what I wanted to others I'd seen to make sure I was getting the best price.

So with that said...I've gone with the Dell mini 10V. Yep, I like the keyboard a whole lot better than the others out there, although the HP mini was a close comparable with the way the keys were, but I haven't read to many good reviews on the HP and I have two Dell's now.

Here's a picture of what my netbook looks like...

It was all about the way my fingers felt on the keys to me, that was the major deciding factor in the choosing. And we all know how those weeks between the major holidays fly.

All I can say is thank God for internet shopping. I have fifteen nieces and nephews, a child of my own, a spouse, and dear friends and close family members that I exchange gifts with every year. Quick calculation: That's a lot of gifts to buy! And mall crowds aren't my idea of fun.

The young kids are easy. A quick chat with them, and I know exactly which toy to buy. The older kids aren't that hard either. In my family they love gift cards. My son will of course give me a list of what he wants. Sigh.

I absolutely love to give gifts. I truly enjoy giving more than receiving. Buying for the kids is more of a checklist activity than real gift giving though. The real stuff, as much as I enjoy it, is the most difficult task I tackle all year.

It's my friends and my husband that I have a hard time with. I like to give meaningful gifts. Something that says, "see I pay attention to you and I care enough to have come up with the perfect gift."

It's always the same every year. For some of my friends I know exactly what I'm giving them months in advance. For others, I twist my brain into a pretzel trying to find something that conveys how I feel about them or what our relationship means to me. And sometimes I just come up empty. That's the worst. I feel like maybe I didn't pay enough attention, maybe I didn't nurture that relationship enough over the year. Guilt. Guilt. Guilt.

Last year, I actually gave one of my best friends a bottle of wine with a card that said. "I suck. I love you, but I just couldn't find a gift I thought you'd like." Granted, it was a very nice bottle of wine, and he loves wine, but it just felt so impersonal. I hate that.

Does anyone else struggle with this? Do you have an old stand-by, a gift that works in a pinch when you just don't know what to give?

Happy Shopping!

Wendi Darlin
www.wendidarlin.com

Animal Instinct is Now in PRINT!

I'm so excited! Animal Instinct, #1 Bestseller and sequel to my 2009 EPPIE Finalist Animal Attraction is now in PRINT!

Every Girl Wants a Guy Who's an Animal in Bed!

Artist Heidi Gibson is spending the summer up in Anchorage doing some painting when she gets attacked by a crazed wolf. She is rescued by golden- eyed wildlife biologist Luke McCall, who calmly informs she has been bitten by a werewolf and will turn into one during the next full moon. Thinking he’s obviously out of his mind, she can’t get away from him fast enough.

When strange things start happening to her, however, she begins to think the ruggedly handsome biologist could be right. Not knowing what else to do, she goes to Luke and is stunned to discover that he knows so much about werewolves because he’s one himself.

As Luke teaches her what she needs to know about being a werewolf, Heidi finds herself falling hard for the Alaskan hunk. But while they’re intent on each other, the werewolf that attacked her comes back into the picture, and he’s not exactly happy that another of his kind is trying to take the woman he believes is his rightful mate. Can Luke and Heidi's attraction overpower the jealousy of the rogue werewolf?

Read Chapter One!
http://www.whiskeycreekpresstorrid.com/chapters/AnimalInstinct_PaigeTyler.shtml

Watch the Trailer!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diuw88cCjRg

Buy it in eBook and Print from Whickey Creek Press Torrid!
http://www.whiskeycreekpress.com/torrid/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=421&zenid=43f8297068ddd4910dbae00ff6d32659

Animal Instinct and Animal Attraction, as well as my other books are also available on Amazon Kindle http://www.amazon.com/ at Fictionwise http://www.fictionwise.com/ and at All Romance eBooks http://www.allromanceebooks.com/

*hugs*
Paige

"Stories so hot, they'll make your cheeks blush!"

http://www.paigetylertheauthor.com/

Carol McKenzie

By A.J. Llewellyn

As an ebook author, I know only too well how we all come to rely on the Internet to meet and stay connected with other authors and readers. When a prolific author with a heavy web presence suddenly vanishes, it's often difficult to find them.

When author Jon Michaelsen realized prominent M/M novelist Carol McKenzie had become awfully quiet after revealing a shocking diagnosis of lung cancer, he urged his publisher to track her down.

It has sent ripples of shockwaves through all of us who knew her that Carol McKenzie, who, according to Jon never smoked a day in her life, died two weeks after her initial diagnosis.

My heartfelt condolences go to her husband, her family, her publishers and co-authors and her legion of readers who had come to worship the 30 books she published in a very short time.

Virgil once said, "Death plucks my ears and says, 'Live, I am coming.' "

It certainly seems Carol lived, and wrote at a marvelous pace, leaving us with a lasting legacy of amazing work.

"She was such a wonderful lady, with a tremendous passion for writing and a need, a desire to get as much out there as she could....almost like she knew time was short," Jon told me last night. "I will miss her for a very long, long time."

I personally came to know Carol interviewing her for Dark Diva Reviews. My respect for her as an author, particularly as an M/M author grew with each new book.

Her men spoke like men. Her writing had verve, believability and originality.

Even her non-sexual scenes contained a depth of layers you don't see in many books, particularly M/M. Her talent was in the details:

Blake Kingsley pulled his truck and fifth wheel into a vacant island of Huck’s Gas Mart in downtown Longview, Washington, and stopped the engine. He climbed out and put his gray Stetson on his head. Heavy, cold rain beat down on the overhang and the air smelled of gasoline. He lifted the nozzle, pressed the mid-grade button and pumped forty dollars worth of gas into his tank, mumbling his displeasure the whole time. When he finished, he put handle back and ambled toward the pay station, the soles of his boots smacking in puddles.
A sleepy-eyed, brunette attendant behind a counter looked at him over her gold-rimmed glasses and blinked long, curling lashes.
Tipping onto his toes, he drew a couple of wadded bills from his tight jeans’ pocket and placed them on the steel counter.
The attendant took them without a word.“Thank you, Ma’am,” he said and returned to his truck. - From Cowboys' Christmas.

Her sex scenes too, never felt like they were phony:

"Relax, honey," Blake said, putting hands on Riley's shoulders.
He massaged him for a few minutes, paused and put more gel onto his hand. Blake wiped a glob on Riley's hip. "I need to massage down here too and work my way up. Don't bolt on me."
"I'm afraid you'll make me hot." Riley squinched his eyes closed and mashed his face into the pillow, trying to relax.
In a soft voice, Blake echoed his thoughts. "I get hot from doing it to you. It's nothing. It happens."
After dousing Riley's ass cheeks, Blake grasped one hip in each hand and massaged by pushing them together and then spreading them. He continued until the sides of his hands moved against Riley's ball sacs.
Riley sucked in a noisy breath, relieved he was face down, hiding his nine inch arousal.
Blake's deep voice broke into his thoughts. "How does it feel?"
"You had to ask, didn't you?"
"Yep."

Carol McKenzie's pen has been stilled, but her work lives on.

Her books, available in ebook format and paperback are and will still be available for some time.

A memorial service will be held at her publisher, Love You Divine's yahoo group this Saturday, November 14:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/loveyoudivine/

They will be posting her excerpts and giving away copies of her print volumes, The Ex Factor, Cowboys and MEN: From His and His Kisses.

For purchasing and other information about Carol, please visit her links:

http://xanga.com/mckbooks

http://loveyoudivine.com/

Aloha oe,

A.J.

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='C. The sequel to A Slave's Way Out is Finished!!

It's been what 2 years...finally, finally, done, done, done!! *See me doing the happy dance.*

I fiqured out why it took me so long. I actually had started the manuscript before Slave's was published and had it finished about six months after. But I didn't like it, so the self editing started and it came up short on word count and then life's little adventures kicked in and writer's block occured and well two years later, LOL.

This past week as I finished with over the word count, liked what I had written and hit that send button, it came to me...

1. That while there's still stress with the day job, in a way it's lessened.

2. If the men in the house don't like that I hit the keys hard (My computer's in the living room) and they have to listen to clack, click, clack...to bad, they can go into the other two rooms that have TV's until I get my netbook *Grins*

3. The stories are coming to me again!! YAY!!

So not only have I finished the Sequel to Slave's, I've started on another and last of that line, I've started plotting two sequel's to Destined to Mate.

Okay, so here's an inside scoop on the sequel which can stand as a story alone from Slave's and you won't miss nay of the action...

Daniel Hedden, First Commander of the War Ship Catalyst and Trea Padame, Second Security Officer to the War Ship Catalyst. This is their story.

Oh Ya and I've finally joined Twitter, LOL. http://twitter.com/AuthorCASalo

C. I'm not usually one to fall short of my responsibilities, but lately life has just been kicking my bootay.

My sincerest apologies. And big thank yous to everyone who refrained from sending me nasty grams because I didn't do what I was supposed to.

Nothing truly horrible has been going on in my life. I'm very blessed in so many ways. But I have also made some mistakes lately that have been hard for me to deal with. I'm not usually one to run down a one-way street the wrong way with my eyes wide open. But as my friend always reminds me, we all have our lessons to learn, and sometimes we just have to learn them the hard way.

I'm working on the hard way right now, I guess. LOL (Words of advice are welcome!!!!)

Next week, I'll work hard to give you all a blog post that's at least mildly entertaining. LOL This week, I'm working on getting my head together. I'm leaving tomorrow for a weekend writer's retreat, and I'm hoping that will help me refocus.

On another note, yesterday Siren-BookStrand re-released Cowboy Games as an Editors' Pick Retro Release. I was flattered and a little floored. I can't believe my first published novel has been out long enough to be "retro." LOL I guess I'm not a spring chicken anymore.

Love to you all!

Wendi Darlin (The slacker who is determined to get herself back in gear.)
www.wendidarlin.com

New Review for VALUABLE CARGO - 4.5 Stars from JERR!

I'm so excited! JERR gave my sexy new sci-fi erotic romance Valuable Cargo 4.5 Stars! Check it out!

"Paige Tyler has offered the reader a highly enjoyable and believable look into the future. Valuable Cargo is chock full of excitement, drama and seduction. What I enjoyed the most is that Garrick wasn't thrown 700 years into the future and then given some kind of implant or magic pill that makes him understand everything in no time. Instead he has to slowly learn to adjust. That aspect, coupled with the comic relief provided by the younger crew members in turn, made all the characters and the plot more believable and easier to relate to. It warmed my heart watching the bond created between the shipmates grow. As the book goes on they feel more like a close knit family than people who just happen to work together. Tanna is very much her own woman and aware of how the decisions she makes affects others. I couldn't help but respect and like her. The mentality of both lead characters is a perfect match. If you want to read a book that will leave you rooting for the hero and heroine at every stop, that will steal a place in your heart, pick up Valuable Cargo the next time you go online!"

Read an Excerpt!
http://www.paigetylertheauthor.com/ExcerptValuableCargo.html

Watch the Trailer!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkKFPyups-U

Buy it from Liquid Silver Books!
http://www.king-cart.com/cgi-bin/cart.cgi?store=linda018&product_name=Valuable+Cargo&return_page=&user-id=&password=&exchange=&exact_match=exact

*hugs*
Paige

"Stories so hot, they'll make your cheeks blush!"

http://www.paigetylertheauthor.com/

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='C. For the first time in thirteen years, I had a quiet, I don't have to go out, fight traffic, crowds and the fright of a little kid running out infront of my car night. Yes, the teenager went off to do his own thing, not trick or treating, all he wanted was the candy, admitted he's really not into it anymore, so I told him I'd buy a couple bags today to satisfy the candy hunger and he was happy with that, LOL. So now it's time to start having Halloween Parties. *YAY*

So not sure about the rest of you, but my butt was up at 7:23 AM (Damn turning back the clocks) :-) What did I do, well, I jumped right back into bed until 8AM, LOL.
I do feel fully refreshed and rested though.

Florida's starting to cool down a bit, *YAY* it's to be in the low 80's today with less humidity and in the upper 50's tonight!! I've waited so long!! (Hand brushing across forehead)

jorge1782

I'm also in the market for a mini netbook. I've played with a few here and there, messed around with a Acer and A dell mini inspiration last night at Wal-Mart and went to read several reviews. I really like the key board on the dell. The buttons are just a bit larger, and felt more comfortable.

It seems the Toshiba mini has had a lot of negative feed back about the keypad being really sensitive and the mouse jumping around. That is one thing I want to avoid big time. I can't stand that.
Anyone out there have a netbook they want to share the scoop on? I'll take the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

I need more coffee so I'm going to end here and say, Good Morning to Happy the Clock has been turned back day! You all got to sleep an extra hour and wake up earlier, LOL. :-)

C. Her first assignment takes her to Fairbanks , Alaska to investigate the possibility that a werewolf has killed two local hikers.

She forgets about the story, however, when she meets Hunter McCall, a local college professor and an expert on wolves. The man is an absolute hunk, and she finds herself spending more time in his bed than worrying about werewolves. That is, until Eliza finds out that Hunter isn’t just an animal in the sack, he’s an animal out of it, too - of the werewolf variety! Talk about a complicated relationship!

But Eliza can’t dwell on Hunter’s little shapeshifting issues. There’s another werewolf out there with a taste for human blood, and she and Hunter are the only ones who can stop him.

Read Chapter One!
http://www.whiskeycreekpresstorrid.com/chapters/AnimalAttraction_PaigeTyler.shtml

Watch the Trailer!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa1ccerys8A

Buy it at Whiskey Creek Press Torrid!
http://www.whiskeycreekpress.com/torrid/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=339&zenid=27e60ee9a26d457583a71b1d94858069

Animal Instinct, #1 Bestseller

Buy it at Whiskey Creek Press Torrid!
http://www.whiskeycreekpress.com/torrid/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=421&zenid=43f8297068ddd4910dbae00ff6d32659

Vampire 101, Book One of Modern Day Vampires

Being a Vampire Isn't What It Used to Be!

Savanna Royce is a weekend Goth-girl who has always been fascinated with vampires. She doesn’t really believe in them, of course, but that changes when she is bitten by a rogue vamp and left for dead. Fortunately, two-hundred-and-seventy-eight-year-old vampire Kaige Travers is there to rescue her. Unwilling to let her die, he turns Savanna into a vampire to save her life, not knowing if she’ll thank him or hate him for it.

While Kaige is teaching Savanna what she needs to know about being a vampire, neither of them can deny the chemistry that’s there. Somewhere between getting her registered at the local vampire admin office and teaching her how to order blood on the internet, they fall for each other, fast and hard.

Just as things are heating up between the sheets – and everywhere else – they encounter one minor problem. But when she and her friends stumble across a charm shop just in time for Halloween, her friends think they've found the solution to her problem. When the mysterious proprietor overhears Alanna complaining about how hard it is to find a good man, the woman gives her a potion she claims will give Alanna her heart’s desire.

Of course, Alanna doesn’t believe in magic, but at the urging of her friends, she goes along with the whole thing anyway. But Alanna is unprepared when she finds a stranger dressed as a pirate passed out on her living room floor hours after doing the magic spell. Thinking he’s just a hunk she must have missed at the costume party they had, she is shocked to discover he's actually the seventeenth-century pirate she jokingly asked for when invoking the spell. Considering how gorgeous he is, that wouldn’t be half bad, if it weren’t for two very annoying problems. One, they can’t get more than twenty feet apart from each other. And two, the sexy pirate seems to think he can put her over his knee and spank her any time he wants to.

How can this arrogant jerk possibly be her heart’s desire? That woman at the charm shop must have made a terrible mistake because Garren Dandridge couldn’t be the right man for her. Llewellyn

It's my turn to post at Midnight Seductions as well as Nice n Naughty today so I am posting the same blog:

I read and I write a lot of erotic and romantic fiction. I watch a lot of gay porn to keep up with what's current and hot to keep my books current. I've learned that what turns gay men on doesn't always turn on women readers and let's face it, M/M readers are mostly women. So, I go with my gut. I stick with the more romantic sex scenes and I like a little kink on the side.
You won't however, find fisting, double fists, arms shoved up asses up to the elbow, feces, water sports, vomiting or any of that stuff in my books.
It does not turn ME on and I can't imagine I'd do it justice in a romance novel.Recently I read an excerpt from an M/M author whose male character was chained up, his arms above his head. The scene went on and on and on and I started to worry about his breathing.
In reality, keeping somebody's arms up like that for a long time becomes quite painful.
I know, because we recently shot a similar scene for my book/movie tie-in "Bad Cops" and I noticed the director John Bruno was concerned for the model's comfort and safety.
The model let him know when he wanted to be released.
What has struck me recently is how different a porn movie looks on screen to what happens when it's actually made.
I addressed this issue in my book "A Vampire in Waikiki" but in a humorous way. I was on the set of a gay porn movie at the time and the lead actor was gay-for-pay and having a hard time getting hard.A woman on the set 'fluffed' him, as in, gave him a blow job, but he panicked, afraid a shot of this would be leaked out and his girlfriend would go mad.
I thought this was funny. He's allowed to suck, fuck and get fucked by other guys but not a woman. He ended up getting hard by watching straight porn.
I was surprised to learn many actual gay porn performers enjoy watching straight porn. Francesco D'Macho shot a vid for his staghomme site and he started the scene watching a straight sex vid.I gave this touch to Divine "Jimmy" Thunder in one of my Waikiki Vampire stories. What most authors who write gay sex scenes (and may never have seen actual gay sex) don't know is what goes into making those hot scenes...well, hot.
I recently had dinner with a friend who was shooting a three way scene the next day. He drank water and grilled the waiter about his soup. He was worried about beans in case they made him fart on the set or made his butt smelly.
He went home and gave himself enemas and anal douches.Steve Cruz is one of the few gay porn stars who discusses openly traveling with a portable douche kit and has blogged about getting ready for such scenes.
By the time guys shoot their fucking scenes they're starving and empty. So if they're turning you on, you know that's some fine-ass acting!
I've also learned now that I am involved with my own porn/erotica with Massive Studios running webisodes of my books "Bad Cops" and "Laid" that a lot goes into those endless 'cum shots'.
There was a guy who came for a scene and got hard but couldn't 'shoot.'It was difficult for his scene partner and for the crew who were loving and coaxing and yet, needed that money shot.
He confessed he'd fucked his girlfriend that morning and couldn't come again so soon.
That's another thing. Porn stars, real porn stars know to save it up for the big moment.
I could go on. Porn is closer to mainstream movies than you think.
The scenes look hot and when well done there's a lot of romance, genuine connectedness etc. but the reality is - just ask Matthew Rush who blogged about his experience on one movie - you can get a guy who is not professional who shows up with a dirty, poopy ass and expects you to bury your face in it.Rick R. Reed once blogged - eloquently - on the reality of rimming.
Do romance writers use any of this stuff in their books? No.Do readers want to read it? I don't think so.
They want the fun, the romance and the drama that goes along with hot sex, gay or straight.I just think it's worth knowing as a writer the reality of all that fucking.

Aloha oe,

A.J.

Midnight Seductions Spooktakular Shindig!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 287px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IU_KyGkY2k4/SuW93Y5mnTI/AAAAAAAAAFA/h7yQfwKaa7w/s400/Halloweenpromo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396928487747919154" />

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='C. Beth from ParaNormal Romance Reviews gave my sexy new sci-fi erotic romance Valuable Cargo a fantastic review! Check it out!

"Wow! Ms. Tyler has done it again! VALUABLE CARGO was not only very entertaining, but an incredibly steamy book. Garrick was an amazing hero, and Tanna was the perfect complement for his personality. I loved that she was a strong woman, able to take care of herself, and intelligent enough to admit when she might be taking things too far. The secondary characters were very well done as well, especially the other crew members in the ship. The villain was just nasty enough to make the story work even better. Honestly, there is nothing bad to say about this one! Great job!"

Read the complete review here!

http://www.paranormalromance.org/reviews/review.php?id=32179

Read an Excerpt!
http://www.paigetylertheauthor.com/ExcerptValuableCargo.html

Watch the Trailer!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkKFPyups-U

Buy it from Liquid Silver Books!
http://www.king-cart.com/cgi-bin/cart.cgi?store=linda018&product_name=Valuable+Cargo&return_page=&user-id=&password=&exchange=&exact_match=exact

For more of my sexy erotic fiction, visit my website at http://www.paigetylertheauthor.com/

*hugs*
Paige

"Stories so hot, they'll make your cheeks blush!"

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='A.J. Llewellyn

Most of us at some point think about 'the one that got away.' It's a wonderful daydream...occasionally. Anyone who spends a lot of time on the Internet does, even once feel tempted to Google search an old love or sexual fantasy...perhaps with fleeting thoughts of a happy ending.

However, according to recent reports, so many people are flocking to social networking sites in search of old loves and wrecking otherwise stable relationships, there's a new word for it.

Retrosexing.

Now, if you reach back into the future, chances are your old love will look NOTHING like the guy in the photo here. That's just how life is. It's not a movie. You're not Sally. He's not Harry.

Love is not blind, it's delusional. It can convince us the impossible is possible.

Or is this loneliness we're talking about? Have we become so lost in our goals, our hopes and fears that we reach out to the unknown...for that illusive greener pasture?

My friend - let's call her Dana - recently looked up an old, old boyfriend online. She didn't go to any of the usual sites like Facebook or MySpace. She Googled him and found him living in the UK with his wife and kids.

In spite of all her friends' warnings, she began a dangerous online liaison where they flirted and talked and finally hooked up over the phone.

And then two weeks ago, he left his wife for her.

Dana was stunned how quickly events spiralled out of control and professed to be thrilled. I was terrified for her. I don't think a normal guy dumps his family for a woman he hasn't seen in 20 years. Especially when she's still nursing their second child.

Dana wouldn't listen. By the time he was on the plane coming out of Heathrow, they were texting nonstop. She wanted to shop for wedding gowns.

I wanted to shop for a shrink. I felt she was headed for disaster.

"It's love!" she shrieked. "I'm in love. Just be happy for me."

Then came the shock. She ran off to the airport to collect him and he was fat, bald, wrinkled and a miserable, miserable guy. He hated LA, hated her friends, her apartment, the noise from the street, the TV, the food, blah blah blah.

For two weeks he shanghaied her laptop, her cell phone, house phone, her living room, banished her cat to the bathroom and the sex was lousy to boot.

"He just lay there on his back, expecting me to do everything," she griped on the phone to me this morning.

"Was he like that when you were with him?" I asked.

"Well...yeah, sort of...now that I think about it. I just remember how much fun we had."

Her lazy Lothario is, as of this moment on a plane bound for the UK. I know, because I drove him to the airport myself. He is heading home, back to reality and he is pondering how to explain this midlife crisis to his wife who figured out he really wasn't at a hairbrush convention in Los Angeles.

As we crested over La Cienega in the dark, starry evening, the oil wells dipping into the ground on our right, I asked him if it had been worth it.

"You have any regrets?"

He told me he had none. He'd always dreamed of a second chance with Dana but said he'd forgotten how selfish and controlling she was.

For him, the trip was worth it. A good friend and
a phenomenal author. Stop by the Rainbow Awards and vote for her amazing book--
Fire Season.

So I wrote a little story and got it published. Seems the public likes it pretty well. It’s sold a lot of copies. Three months after its eBook release it goes to print. It’s still selling in both formats. The reviewers seem to like it a lot too. Ten reviews all stellar. Of the ten, five reviews rated the book at five or better (five being the top grade.) The remaining four reviews were rated at four or better (meaning anything from four up to five.) Now, it’s been nominated for an award. You can vote for it. In the first round of public voting it finished 3rd overall. It is now in the second round of voting and is placed in a group together with the top 10 finishers in the first poll.

I should be really pleased with all of this, shouldn’t I? Everyone says I should be. So why is it that I feel people think of me as a flash in the pan? That this book won’t stand the test of time against all the authors who’ve been doing this longer than me? Or against all the authors who only write this genre and nothing else? Why do I feel like people are looking down their noses at me for writing more than one genre? As if I’m some popularity seeker who wrote this genre for fun and can’t be taken seriously as a GLBT writer? Why do I question it all?

Along the road I’ve walked with Fire Season has come some not so good feelings. I received email about the book from someone who didn’t want me posting about it. I later determined from other sources that the person was likely homophobic. I’ve received comments that have made me feel that because I also write het stories that I’m not really a GLBT writer, that I’m just following a trend, riding the wave of M/M popularity. Other comments I’ve received have made me feel that those who follow this genre exclusively think I’m just a flash in the pan, a shooting star whose brilliance will disappear with the next M/M story I put out.

To keep myself grounded, I kept the emails from the editor of my second M/M story. She reads a lot of M/M manuscripts. I have implicit faith in her ability to see the difference between a flash in the pan and someone who loves their craft and their characters. And I do love them. They live in my head and share their hearts with me and I drop those emotions on the page for everyone to see. If I’m just some trend follower, would I feel these characters so deeply?

So now, Fire Season has been nominated for a Rainbow Award. I was shocked at the nom, and shocked again when it finished third in the first round of voting. I’m not sure how long this second round of voting lasts. I don’t think it was specified on Elisa’s website. And this time, I feel foolish going around and telling the people who voted for FS that they need to vote… again.

I wonder how well Fire Season will do in this round. Not only is up against the books that got the most votes last time, but all the books that didn’t get many votes last time are getting lots more votes now. I just don’t know whether the book’s popularity in the first round will even get it into the finals so the jurors can decide. It’s all a big popularity contest right now and I’m hoping Fire Season can hold up against the books whose authors only write this genre. And if it can’t, will it make the book and me look like a flash in the pan after all?

I’m not ungrateful for votes or for the nomination. I’m not ungrateful for the popularity and sales the book has had. I guess I just wish I understood all the processes inside this industry better. I wish I understood what people really meant by some of the comments I’ve received.

Most days, I don’t question it all so much, I just accept. I accept that editors Kris Jacen and Mary Winter believe in me as a writer of M/M stories. I accept that the fans on the groups believe that too. I accept that the ten reviewers who liked this book didn’t feel I was a flash in the pan because they all said they wanted to see more of my work. And I accept that my characters are satisfied that I told their story to the best of my ability regardless of any labels anyone wants to place on me. In the end, it’s their satisfaction that calms my fears. And when it’s all said and done, opening my email to find notes of satisfaction from those who spent their hard earned dollars in a tough economy on MY story make all the doubts and questions about my flashiness disappear.

If you would like to vote for Fire Season in the Rainbow Awards, click this link to be taken to the poll. http://www.livejournal.com/poll/?id=1471994

Once there, you must sign in with either a Live Journal, Google ID or Open ID in the upper right corner. After you’ve signed in, on the left hand side click Fill Out Poll and you will get the voting page. Each category has multiple groups. You may vote for only ONE book in each group. Scroll to the bottom of the category and click on Leave A Comment.

http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/822605.html

Thanks to everyone who has purchased Fire Season, voted for it in the Rainbow Awards, voted for Holden in the Summer Hero contest, and sent me fan mail. Every single one of you makes it possible for me to keep doing this. Your support means everything to me… and to all the characters who live in my head.

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='C. I've been following it briefly, but I have to say YAY for authors! With spending down abit because of the economy, retailers are fighting to keep their customers. So they're slashing prices or offering deals. Nothing like good healthy compatition to keep you going, LOL.

Here's an article I read at Publisher's Weekly

Retailer offering same-day delivery in seven major cities

By Lynn Andriani -- Publishers Weekly, 10/16/2009 7:55:00 AM

Amazon has fired the most recent shot in the pricing war with Wal-Mart that broke out Thursday, by introducing same-day delivery in seven major cities and expanding its Saturday delivery options. After Walmart.com cut the price of its top 10 pre-ordered titles to $10 (which includes free shipping) on Thursday, Amazon followed suit, and yesterday, both retailers dropped pricing on those 10 titles down to $9. Now, Amazon has announced it will begin offering same-day delivery in Baltimore, Boston, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington, D.C. (it already offers the service in New York).

Amazon’s same-day shipping charge is $14.99, plus $3.99 per book. The cut-off time for ordering with same-day delivery ranges from 10:00 a.m. local time in New York and Philadelphia, to 1:00 p.m. local time in Seattle. Girish Lakshman, v-p of transportation at Amazon, said “We want to make online shopping as convenient as possible.” In addition to the same-day delivery service, the retailer will now deliver items ordered before the cut-off time on Thursday using two-day shipping on Saturday (instead of Monday).

Among the $9 titles is Going Rogue by Sarah Palin, due out from HarperCollins November 17. Amazon and Wal-Mart offer the book for $9, while BN.com and Borders.com are selling it for $17.39. The book's list price is $28.99. Other $9 hardcovers include Kindred in Death by J.D. Robb (Putnam), The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver (Harper) and Ford County by John Grisham (Doubleday).

http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA6702373.html?nid=2286&rid=#CustomerId&source=link

The image was found at photobucket: zeprock

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://nicennaughtyauthors.blogspot.com/2009/10/amazon-vs-wal-mart.html' title='Amazon VS.
