Sin City

las vegas Pictures, Images and Photos

I'm heading out to Vegas this weekend to do a little research for my latest novel. I'm looking forward to the trip, but it's going to be whirlwind of fly in, check out the areas I need to see, and fly back home. Not a lot of time for fun and excitement. Of course, it's hard not to at least get caught up a little in the bells, whistles and lights of Vegas even if you're just walking to dinner.

I'm already dreading the time difference (3 hours). That'll knock me on my butt for a few days when I get back home and the adrenaline wears off. Luckily, I still have a few lazy weeks of summer left to get caught up again. It'll all be worth it, I'm sure, and I'll try to take lots of pictures I can share with you all.

There are specific areas I need to check out while, I'm in Vegas, but I hate to fly all the way across the country and miss something great. I know lots of you have been there. What are your favorite things about Sin City? What should I check out if I have time?

New Cover Squee! VALUABLE CARGO!

Got my cover for Valuable Cargo, my hot, new sci-fi erotic romance coming from Liquid Silver Books on Aug 17th! April Martinez did the cover! Isn't it sexy?!

VALUABLE CARGO

They Don't Make Men Like Him Anymore!

Tanna Aldrick is the captain of a deep space salvage ship in the twenty-ninth century. When she and her all-female crew stumble upon an ancient ship floating in the middle of nowhere, they figure they might be able to find a few valuable tidbits left on the decrepit spacecraft. But what they discover is more valuable than anything they could have ever imagined finding – a gorgeous hunk of a man from the twenty-second century, perfectly preserved in cryogenic suspension. Mankind has changed a lot in seven-hundred years, and six-foot-four, blond-haired, blue-eyed guys like him aren’t just rare; they’re nonexistent.

From the moment they revive him, Tanna finds herself falling for their handsome passenger. As logical as her reasons for not getting romantically involved with him are, however, she still finds herself inviting him into her bed.

Garrick Carlisle wakes up after seven-hundred years in hypersleep to find that everything and everyone he knew is gone. Lost and disconnected, the only thing that keeps him from completely losing it is the beautiful and sexy, dark-haired ship’s captain who rescued him.
Tanna isn’t the only person interested in Garrick, though. A man like him would bring a high price on the slave blocks on any number of planets and there are a lot of unscrupulous people in the galaxy willing to do anything to get their hands on him.

How far will Tanna go to protect her valuable cargo and what will Garrick do to stay with the woman he has come to love?

Coming Aug 17th from Liquid Silver Books!

The Actress

By A.J. Llewellyn

I had an interesting...no, bizarre is the right word...experience yesterday. I have recently befriended a very attractive young woman who is an actress. I liked her and we hit it off. She is a golf fanatic and apparently, a very good player. She is also a tennis buff and avid reader. Though fully immersed in her career, I was impressed that she is not the starving actress type. She has museum memberships and drives a nice car. She reads great books, dresses well, she has invested previous earnings. She attends classes, she auditions constantly and recently landed a big TV commercial. I was thrilled to see it show up time and again on the air and I nursed her through a bad patch where she lost a major ad to a big name.
She threw it off, impressing me with her strength and strong self-worth.
My new friend was so awesome, so gorgeous, I began to wonder...why was she single and alone?
It was a question that intrigued me and I asked, as nicely as I could over coffee one morning and she laughed, saying she only seems to meet married men.
She confessed to a fling here and there but said she was looking for the right guy. I happened to know a guy, newly-divorced and thought they would be gorgeous together. My friend, let's call him Tom, met her on Saturday for coffee. Their date went so well, he invited her to the theater that night and called me from his cell phone in the men's restroom, gushing.
"A.J! She's amazing. She's bright, she's beautiful and soooo sweet."
They enjoyed the play, their observations on it remarkably similar.
Over a late dinner afterward, then dessert someplace else, she played with his shoes, tying the laces together. He said he felt like a kid again and never laughed so hard. He said it was wonderful.
He called her when he got home and they talked for two hours. He begged her to have dinner with him on Sunday and she agreed.
He took her to his favorite, very expensive Italian restaurant, where his best friends all waited like circling sharks. He saw the shock on their faces and thought they were jealous.
Things went very well, though Tom said the guys kept staring at her.
My actress friend excused herself for a moment and as soon as she left the table, his friends pounced on him.
He heard the immortal words, "Tom, what are you doing with a call girl?"
One of the guys claimed to have slept with her, the others had seen her picture online.
"She picked me up at a bar a few weeks ago. She acts like she doesn't remember," Tom's friend said. "But she is a call girl. She's with So-and-So agency."
Tom called me early yesterday morning, deeply upset after enduring an appalling evening where The Actress clearly worked hard to be the perfect dinner date, charming, if you'll pardon the pun, the pants off everybody.
He desperately wanted the meal to be over so he could go online and check whether she really was a rent girl.
Poor Tom was in torment.
Like a teenage girl, he raced home and googled The Actress by her 'porn' name. There's nothing nasty out there. No naked pics. It's all very discreet but she IS who they say she is.
He forwarded me the link and when I read her bio, I love sex being the first line, I felt dreadful.
Tom blamed me until he realized I too, had been naive to her truth.
He has dropped her like a hot brick, not letting on what he has learned. He has asked me to say nothing to her, just that he decided it wouldn't work.
She called him once, but has not turned, you know, fatal.
I struggle with what to say to her because I, the dummy, set them up and she keeps asking why he stopped calling her.
I want to tell her, but I can't. I feel my friendship with him has been harmed and my friendship with her is like a shell game.
She never mentioned what she does. I would never have set her up with Tom, but I sure would have felt a lot better about her had I known the truth.
So now, I know she really is an Actress, and I wish I didn't know that particular truth.

Aloha oe,
A.J.

Fireman's Revenge

This is one of the best photos I've seen in years! I bet he won't think he is above the law next time. I've got one thing to say to the Firefighter who did this . . . That's the attitude I want if my house is on fire!!

OMG This is A LAW

So I was surfing around looking for some info and I came across a site with weird laws around the world...
Canada
If you are released from prison, it is required that you are given a handgun with bullets and a horse, so you can ride out of town.

Alabama
It is considered an offense to open an umbrella on a street, for fear of spooking horses.
It is illegal to wear a fake moustache that causes laughter in church.

Alaska
It is considered an offense to feed alcoholic beverages to a moose
Owners of flamingos
may not let their pet into barber shops.

Arizona
Donkeys cannot sleep in bathtubs.

When being attacked by a criminal or burglar, you may only protect yourself with the same weapon that the other person possesses.

Arkansas

Honking one’s car horn at a sandwich shop after 9 PM is against the law.

Flirtation between men and women on the streets of Little Rock
may result in a 30-day jail term.
California

Women may not drive in a house coat.

You are not permitted to wear cowboy boots unless you already own at least two cows.
Colorado

Keeping a house where unmarried persons are allowed to have sex is prohibited.

The dog catcher must notify dogs of impounding by posting, for three consecutive days, a notice on a tree in the city park and along a public road running through said park.
Connecticut

In order for a pickle to officially be considered a pickle, it must bounce.

It is illegal for fire trucks to exceed 25mph, even when going to a fire.
Delaware

No person shall change clothes in his or her vehicle.

Alcohol may not be served in nightclubs if dancing is occurring on the premises at the same time.

I wonder why these were never changes since they are so off the wall...

5 Hearts for Made for Me by L.A. Day

"Ms. Day has penned a wonderful short story that captures the imagination with life-like characters and searing passion." Reviewed by Heather at NOR

To read full review click here.

Snippet:
Does a pleasure droid sweat? Mav was sweating. He took a deep breath and placed his hand on the digiscan. A minute passed—two. Kari Marston’s face appeared on the screen.

“May I help you?”

“I am Mav II, from Skytech,” he croaked in irritation. Reduced to the role of pleasure droid, he waited for his dream woman to open the door.

“Oh, just a moment.”

The entry to high-rise box 312 opened with a whoosh and Kari stood before him. A scarlet blush colored her delicate features and her eyes darted away, as if she were too embarrassed to look at him. “I wasn’t expecting anyone to come out. I…I placed an order digitally.”

“Yes. That is why I am here.” Mav breathed deeply. His heart pounded.

“I didn’t expect… It’s supposed to be a discreet site.” Kari licked her lips nervously and all his blood flowed downward.

“I am Mav II. I am discreet.” He had to remind himself to speak in what Rebecca called “proper, stilted grammar”. It wasn’t his usual style.

Kari’s finely arched brows drew together and her full, lush lips pursed. “Oh.” She blinked long, golden lashes as she finally allowed her gaze to travel over him. “You’re the…droid?” She whispered the last word.

End of excerpt.

Have a great weekend!

The Pink Palace

By A.J. Llewellyn

I have never understood my fascination...my...obsession with the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, otherwise known as The Pink Palace. It doesn't appeal to me visually. It's a little too Miami and just too...pink.
But in the past twelve months I have come here, seeking solace in the wonderful grounds, learning more about the hotel the Honolulu Advertiser once described as "colorful and semi-barbaric."
I've found staffers who've told me wonderful nuggets of history, such as the lengths the builders went to in 1927 went to in order to prevent the new hotel from sinking into what was then the swamp of Waikiki. Outside, not much has changed since its opening days, with its two acres of exotic plants and flowers, including tree ferns brought from KilaueaVolcano on the Big Island.
Inside plenty has changed, but I swear I hear the ghosts of the original 40 room boys, 20 bell boys, 10 elevator operators and five telephone operators.
And I can just promise you I hear the rustle of grass skirts from the eight Chinese lobby boys dressed in native Hawaiian costumes.
I have been trying to understand my yen for this place, when quite frankly, the Moana Surfrider just a few blocks down Kalakaua Avenue is so much more appealing.
Two days ago, my father casually mentioned he brought my mother to The Pink Palace shortly before she died.
My cousin Chris and I went down to the hotel yesterday and sat in the garden. Some days I can talk about her, some days I can't. Since she died after a grim battle with cancer when I was six, my gap in knowledge of her is enormous since my father can hardly talk about her at all.
He only recently told me about the battle to save her, the race to a cancer specialist in Los Angeles. On their way home to Australia to me and my brothers, she sought solace in the gardens of the Pink Palace.
So it's here where I hear her voice too, her laughter my father says sounds just like mine.
When I need to feel her, to just...be with her gentle presence, I know I will always come and find her here.
In this colorful, semi-barbaric palace.

Aloha oe,

A.J.

Destined to Mate up for Best Book Honor...

"Destined to Mate" is up for Best Book honor this weekend at Whipped Cream.

Voting runs from Saturday, 7/18, through Sunday, 7/19.

You can find the information here on Saturday as well as the full review:

Review:

Destined to Mate mixes a delicious combination of mythology, the paranormal and some hot loving sure to thrill a reader on many levels. Alexis is a heroine with a deadly secret. She’s also adorable, spunky, and an amazing mix of charming innocence and old world knowledge. She is also the owner of a book store. Imagine that.

What I really liked about her are her kick butt abilities which totally outshine the guys, much to their chagrin. All the guys except one, that is. Morgan is an alpha wolf. And he’s the best part of being an alpha – not overbearing and irritatingly autocratic but protective, responsible and fair. He also has being dominant in a relationship down pat – it’s a very seductive and potent level.

Even when Alexis throws him for a loop he still doesn’t get in a snit over it. He is so very well put together; I didn’t have to deal with any male ego trips. What a relief. One of the things that I personally look for in a lycan/paranormal romance is if there is bite. I find biting in passion between the hero and heroine very erotic and Ms. Salo nailed it. But I am not going to tell you who was biting who, because that would be telling. There’s no way I want to diffuse those moments, which for me, were very sensual and satisfying.

The secondary characters were fun. Val was interesting and a good sounding board for Alexis. There’s a term for their relationship but no way am I writing that here. Rafe simply cracked me up. What a unique spin for a second-in-command. Usually they are about as strong as the alpha, but poor Rafe has a very human and irritating thing that happens to him. I could not help but giggle the times it happened.

Alexis’ mom is a beaut. Wait until you meet her.

Destined to Mate is sure to entertain and excite, evoke interest and lust, and delivers a well written story with a character driven plot which delightfully showcases the pursuit of love in all its furry splendor.

Vacation Spots

Summer will be over before we know it, and around here at the Darlin house we are scrambling to fit in a few more vacations. We're having the hardest time this year deciding where to go. We love the beach. We love the mountains. And there are so many natural wonders we haven't seen yet. The list of possibilities is long. It looks like we're leaning toward a mountain vacation. Maybe the Poconos so we can visit family in Philadelphia at the same time, or maybe we'll head out to Wyoming again since we liked it so much in the winter.

Who knows, but we're determined to make a final decision and book our reservations tonight. So as usual, I like to see what everyone else likes.

Where do you like to vacation and what is it that draws you there?

New Review for Librarian By Day!

I'm so excited! Two Lips Reviews gave 5 Kisses to my sexy contemporary erotic romance Librarian By Day!

"Paige Tyler is one of the hottest spanking romance writers around, and Librarian by Day is a prime example of why. The heat between Nik and Jennifer is so hot you might need oven mitts to read this romance. Jennifer is shy, so very shy, she has never told a lover her most secret parts of herself. When she does, how will Nik react? Nik is such a sweet alpha male. Every girl should have a Nik in her life. Jennifer is so lucky to have him! Trust me, he knows how to handle his girl. One of the great things about a Paige Tyler romance is the emotional connection that is between the characters. I love how the characters grow and learn from each other, becoming more than they were before. The real treat in this romance is the connection Ms. Tyler creates with her characters. It always is a joy to watch unfold. When you want a spanking romance to remember you want Librarian by Day on your keeper shelf!"

Harper's Island

A few month's ago I kept seeing a commercial for some new show that would be airing this summer...It sounded interesting and I decided to check it out...It was to air for only a few weeks...A murder mystery where every week someone would die...

You as the viewer try to figure out who the killer is...(warning contains spoilers..do not read if you have not seen it and plan to watch it)

The story is that a few years ago there was a string of murders on the island and now the killer is striking again...Everyone is sure the killer was murdered by the sheriff....Now years later the daughter of one of the victims- the sheriffs daughter Abby- returns to the island for her best friends- Henry's- wedding...

Soon they find out the island is not as safe as they believed...Now one by one they are getting killed off... They must find a way to stay alive long enough to find a way off the island...

Thursday the show came to an end...You found out all the things you waited to know..I must say it was the best ending ever...Wakefield turning out to have a child...one that he had with Abby's mom....Nobody would have ever guessed the kid to be...Henry..yes the groom.....Henry helped his father kill all the people on the island, the same people who came for his wedding...All for Abby....Yes he is her brother but his reason was love..He even killed his own father..his real father Wakefield, the man who trained him to kill...He picked his childhood friend Abby over everyone else...

He even made it look like everybody died so that he could spend the rest of his life with her on the other end of the island...He was so deranged...

I was not surprised to find out that Henry was the other killer? Why you might ask, well there was an episode on the dock when Henry's brother is killed and the look in his eyes, it was not normal, it gave away the dark side of him...When I had scene that I kept thinking that he is the one doing it..Something gave him away....

I think they did a fantastic job with this show because it is different and it pulled you in to keep watching and to keep guessing who the killer might be...they ended it off with a 2 hour bang...letting everything fall into place and unravel.....It reminded me of the board game... clue....but on a bigger scale....the who done it part....

If you watched the show, what did you think? Were you shocked about the ending?

Sweet Tweets

Lately, I've been using Twitter more for entertainment and industry tips than promotion and blasting the events of my day to my followers. I'm curious how all of you use Twitter.

There are some people I follow just because they crack me up, and there are others who pass along stuff that is very good to know. Some of the ones I follow are real life friends, and others are fellow authors. But honestly the ones I seek out the most when I'm scrolling through my list of tweets are the ones who put a smile on my face (Jimmy Fallon, Blake Shelton, Ben Stiller, etc).

What about you? Who do you follow and why? Feel free to leave your twitter ID in the comments so we can follow you, too.

Michael Mania

By A.J. Llewellyn

The chips have fallen and the fabled 8,750 two-for-one tickets to Michael Jackson's funeral services this morning have been distributed. The lucky recipients of the pairs of tickets have their mottled-gold arm bracelets on - or they don't.
My friend Lizzie called me last night, all excited that she'd won, except that she had planned to sell the tickets on Ebay (there are plenty on there already) and couldn't because when she went down to Dodger Stadium to pick up her tickets and credentials, they forced her to don the bracelet right there and then.
Once it became obvious that 'fans' were selling these free tickets online and, apparently, right outside the stadium, the organizers of today's memorial service in downtown Los Angeles, started insisting that the ticket recipients put the bracelets on immediately.
Lizzie and countless others were warned they would not be admitted to the memorial service without it.
She's skipping work therefore to attend the service and was ecstatic and giddy. I listened to her for a moment and said,
"Lizzie, you make it sound like you're going to a concert. It's a funeral."
"Oh, my God," she said. "You're right."
I am a Hollywood resident and writer and many people know that I read screenplays for studios for a living but all of a sudden, after a long dry spell, I'm getting emailed requests from companies for coverage of screenplays.
Hey, I can use the money, don't get me wrong. But like a growth attaching itself to the heart with long, grasping tentacles, I have been dismayed to see the flurry of screenplays shooting for the Green Light -- all about Michael Jackson.
A few are unauthorized bios, a few are made with the participation of family members, most are screenplays that have been sitting on studio shelves for years...coming of age type stories, where the young singer is inspired by MJ.
It is sick.
He was an amazing talent, one we'll never see again. But I have a hard time separating the legend, the talent, from all the other weird stuff. Sorry, but I do.
I wish him a nice rest in heaven. I wish his tormented soul some peace. I will always love his music. I will live with the knowledge that nobody else will ever make a video like Thriller.
And I wish that the people who 'won' the right to go and say goodbye to him this morning really, really wanted to be there. I know many of them do, but just as many of them just want to say, "I was there!"
Wherever he is in heaven, Michael is probably telling God, "See, I told you what it was like for me down there. I'm dead, and they want even bigger pieces of me."
I hope the madness dies down, that people don't keep trying to cash in on the cow whose milk has not only dried up but who cries in mortal agony.
Judging by the way people continue to cash in on say, Tupac Shakur's untimely passing, I would say I'm dreaming.
The legend of Michael is turning into the fastest way in town to make a buck.
And this is just the beginning.

Aloha oe,
A.J.

The Day After the Fourth...

Well, here we are the day after the fourth of July.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m most likely walking around with a slight headache.
Why don’t I know, well because, I’m writing this ahead of time, and am planning to celebrate the FREEDOM of our country with friends and family. That’s right, a good old American BBQ with some wine, music, and good times.
I’m not one to talk about politics outside my circle of family and friends, so I won’t. All I am going to say however, is that as Americans we need to make sure we keep the liberties that our forefathers fought so hard for.

My favorite movie about the fourth is Independence Day with Will Smith. It not only shows that All Americans can pull together in a time of crisis but the entire population of what we call Earth.

What’s yours?
Creator of the pic above.

And of course you knew I just had to toss this in. *Grins*

Summer Weather

I want to start of by Saying Happy 4Th of July to all the Americans out there.....
Photobucket

It is so great to have warm weather here....Except the last few weeks our weather has been a bit crazy, days are hot and night time is cold and rain...The temp jumps are big. I don't remember the last time the weather was this weird....

I'm looking forward to getting away with the family, do some camping, enjoy the fresh air....

I would love to just travel around the world but at the moment that is not possible...so we are taking time to just go visit places here....

What are you looking forward to doing this summer?

Any travel plans?

Reading at the Beach

Over the last couple of years I have cut way back on my paperback book purchases in favor of ebooks. But in preparation for my trip to the beach I purchased a few paperbacks. Let's face it, taking a laptop or ebook reader down to the beach near water and sand isn't practical. So, on my first day I happily read for an hour or so before taking a break. I left my book in my chair but when I returned an hour or so later I found my daughter had thrown it off the chair and the surf had come in far enough to lap at the pages. One book down!

The next day, I decided to try again but warned my daughter not to touch my book. I almost took the book with me as I returned to the beach house but my chair was a safe distance from the water and I only planned a short break. Upon returning to my chair, I discovered my book missing. Now, I've lost my second book and I'm not very happy.

Of course, I would have been more upset if my ebook reader got wet or was stolen but still it seems that reading on the beach doesn't work for me.

Instead, I managed to read a few ebooks from the comfort and safety of the deck. Thank goodness for the convenience of downloading ebooks.

Have a good one,

Summer Reading

Between travel and a houseful of loud little boys, I'm not getting any writing done this summer. I'm trying to make up for that with reading. I've got a stack of non-fiction books on my desk that I'm picking through to research my next novel, and I've polished off three novels this week, two historical romances and one mainstream novel.

THE BEACH HOUSE by Georgia Bockoven
THE MERMAID by Betina Krahn
PASSION'S TREASURE by Betina Krahn

Now I've got my eye on a prize. My teetering TBR pile might actually shrink enough to not feel like one more thing I'll never get done. :) Do you read more or less in the summer? What have you been reading lately? I know, I know, I'm asking for trouble, but if my TBR mountain gets too low, I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

ParaNormal Romance Reviews Calls ANIMAL INSTINCT and "Excellent Read!"

I'm so excited! ParaNormal Romance Reviews calls my hot, new paranormal romance Animal Instinct an "Excellent Read!" Check it out!

"This story was excellent! I loved the setting, it totally made me want to go visit Alaska, just to see it for myself, and maybe pick up a sexy Alaskan werewolf like Luke. Heidi's character was also very well developed, and I loved that she was not some wilting flower, she was capable of solving her own problems, but she was also woman enough to realize when she was over her head, and needed help. Luke's character was perfect-strong, able to take care of his woman, but not overbearing about it. He was alpha, but not to any extreme. He was able to control himself to let her go, and hope that she would come back to him. All in all, this was an amazing story, with some very hot scenes between Luke and Heidi. Excellent job!"
